The Oakleigh Raptors Basketball Club was founded in 2011 with the goal to provide the local communities around Oakleigh, Huntingdale, Clayton and Clarinda with the opportunity to play and enjoy basketball.
As part of the McKinnon Basketball Association (MBA), our basketball club welcomes all skill levels, offering children and adults the opportunity to enjoy the sport, make new friends and encourage each individual to develop their full potential - both on and off the court. Basketball not only improves fitness, it helps develop vital life skills across leadership, teamwork, focused practice, overcoming challenges, and prosocial behaviour.
It all about the enjoyment of basketball, without it, there's little point!
Basketball skills take time, our players need to learn 'how to learn' through focused practice. We will win or learn, and only with perseverance will our players truly succeed.
How we get there, is just as important as if we get there! Integrity, respect & fair play - at all times, to everyone.
The well-being is vital for all players, coaches, referees, officials, parents - everyone!
We want to give back to our community as much as we want to grow the 'Raptors Way' of basketball for all.
The Oakleigh Raptors Basketball Club is a Not-for-Profit organisation who is run by volunteer parents, friends and family donating their time and expertise to help build the club’s mission. Our current committee includes:

The Oakleigh Raptors Basketball Club Policies are in-line with our Association (McKinnon Basketball), Basketball Victoria and club constitution. The below policies describe the behaviour we expect from our players, parents, coaches, administrators and spectators. Please click on the below buttons to see these policies.
All our coaches are parents or junior players at the club who graciously volunteer their time each week for training and on game day.
We are always seeking additional coaches and assistant coaches to join our team. The club provides all essential equipment, training and support to aid your own coaching development. The Raptors Basketball club also has a dedicated Coaching Director who is there to support throughout and we provide regular training sessions to support level 1 accreditation.

Learning & Behavior Issues Consultant
The Oakleigh Raptors are truly blessed with the volunteer support of Jimmy who is donating his expertise in supporting individuals living with disabilities. He is available to support our coaches with advice, techniques and strategies to help any players on their team who may have disabilities or learning and behavior support in partnership with our coaching director. Our club is so appreciative of Jimmy donating his professional expertise - thus supporting our mission to make Raptors basketball accessible to as many as possible!
The Alderson Nash Award (founders award) is the Oakleigh Raptors most prestigious achievement and presented to a player who has demonstrated the Raptors Way and made a significant contribution to the sport (E.g., through playing, coaching, refereeing etc) or to our clubs development.
The Raptors Lifetime Membership Award is bestowed to those who have significantly contributed to our Basketball club.
Recognising and celebrating progression are important milestones in our kid’s basketball journey and at the conclusion of each season, we run a Presentation Night. Each child receives a medal and coaches reflect on individual and team development and looking forward to growth in the next season.
Our mission is to make not just basketball, but the ‘Raptors Way’ as accessible to as many people as possible, so affordability is a central consideration in our club’s strategy. Without the generosity of our sponsorships and partnerships, we wouldn’t be able to make the difference we continue to strive for.
